Vitamin D is a fat soluble steroid derivative. In humans, vitamin D comes from the sun irradiated skin. The vitamin D synthesized by the skin is transported to the liver by binding with vitamin D binding protein, while the absorbed vitamin D is transported to the liver by binding with chylomicrons and lipoprotein. Vitamin D deficiency is widespread all over the world, affecting 30% ~ 50% of people. The determination of 25 hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) is an important index to measure the nutritional status of vitamin D.
